Family + Caregiver Peer Support 1:1 Sessions

Our family peer support and resource navigators offer free 1:1 sessions for individuals who have a loved one experiencing mental health or substance use concerns. Peer support workers use their lived experience to offer emotional support, information, resources and especially – hope during difficult circumstances.

Did you know peer support is based on science? Sharing our experiences with someone who listens and understands, and learning from people who have been through similar situations, can help us through unimaginable challenges.

Meet Selena – Our Family Peer Support + Resource Navigator

We’re thrilled to introduce Selena in her role as our Family Peer Support and Resource Navigator at EmotionsBC. With warmth, empathy, and lived experience, Selena offers one-to-one peer support and facilitates groups for individuals who need that extra bit of time with someone sharing specific challenges and/or to find the right community resources to engage in. This additional support gives families the chance to immediately connect with someone who can meet them where they are, validate their experience, and guide them towards actionable skills for effective communication and self-care.

Selena’s journey into this work began with her own experience as a family member supporting someone with mental health challenges. Her personal path, paired with a BSN in Nursing and recent completion of a Certificate in Community Mental Health, brings a depth of understanding and care to her role.

As a passionate advocate for reducing stigma and improving access to mental health support, Selena bridges the gap between service-user and service-provider. She’s also deeply involved in the community, including her work with Foundry Surrey’s Family Engagement Leadership Table and other local mental health and substance use initiatives.

Outside of her support work, you’ll find Selena enjoying time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, playing pickleball, or relaxing by the beach.

We’re so grateful to have Selena on our team, walking alongside families with strength, compassion, and hope.
